FINAL POINTS

Posted by: Kienan O on Sun Apr 04th 2010 7:33am

Hi everyone,

After a great weekend of hockey the Blues ended tonight 2 points out of the semis. The boys put forth a great effort in all 3 games and I am very proud of how each of my players played and handled themselves over the weekend.

These last 3 games were some of the best played games of the season.

Our defence played as well as they had all season with Kevin controlling the puck and making strong passes and clearing attempts and Scotty showing great speed not letting anyone get behind him. Jason Glionna and Adam were towers of stay at home defence, owning the blue lines at both ends. Jason Mizuguchi showed his speed playing at both ends of the ice and showing great puck control.

The wingers were awesome defending in our zone and applying pressure offensively. Mitchell had some good chances working hard in front of the net and playing well positionally up and down the boards. Mackenzie made some great decisions carrying the puck, showed hustle, picked up an assist and converted a rebound into a goal with a great shot. Alexander played well in both ends making good decisions with the puck as well as adding a couple of goals and a number of assists to our tally. Keith showed his hockey sense with some awesome heads up passes that often turned into goals and strong work in front of the net where he scored one of his own. Andrew earned a game MVP because of his strong play especially in the offensive corners where he won battles for the puck and helped his team with a goal and some assists. Kienan showed us his big shot and his finesse play as he controlled the puck, made passes and added both goals and assist to help his team.

Dylan stepped up his game making pass after pass, playing both offensively and defensively and adding to the teams point total with goals and assists. Our team has the 2 best defensive centres in the entire league. As great as both Morgan and Jim are offensively they really stand out for their defensive abilities. They continued this during this weekends games.

Kicking away shot after shot Kevin played 6 shut out periods back stopping his team to a very successful weekend.

Thanks to all these boys for giving it their all this weekend and the entire season. Thanks too to our parents for giving up a good portion of their Easter weekend to let these boys play a game that they love. We were one of the few teams (if not the only team) that had their entire roster out this weekend.

A special thanks has to go out to Michelle for organising this weekend and spending another 20 hours or so at the rink. She earned every penny of the grant money that she received from Bell. Thanks too for using the money to enter our team in the tournament. A number of Blues players volunteered their time to help make this weekend a success for all the teams. Kienan, Alexander, Mitchell, Andrew and Mackenzie all spent time in the timekeepers box running the clock and filling in game sheets... thank guys!

Lastly, thanks to Greg, Ted and Mike. I couldn't ask for a better group of guys to spend a couple of hours with each weekend.

If each one of our 16 players plunk down their $500.00 (yes it's going up again!) to play next season then I feel that we succeeded as coaches. I hope that I see you all at the rink again next year.

Easter Tournament

Posted by: Kienan O on Fri Apr 02nd 2010 12:28pm

Good morning. I hope you are all enjoying your Good Friday morning.

Last night the boys played a great game. They played against one of the
dirties teams that I think they have ever seen. Our players did a great
job keeping their cool, skating away from the slashes, elbows and body checks
and sticking with their game plan. Their efforts paid off with a big 5-0
win.

To give all the teams an opportunity to gain some points and a chance at
moving on to the semi's points are awarded for each period as well as the
entire game. Penalties do not enter into the equation. Yesterday the
Blues won each period as well as the game for a total of 8 of the 8 available
points.

Kevin W was named our teams MVP of the game with his shut out
effort.
There were a number of honourable mentions as well. Keith J made
quite
a few heads up passes that lead to either scoring chances or goals.
Kienan O tallied 2 goals, one being a beautiful backhand goal. Our wingers
played strong along the boards and all passed well. All 4 defencemen
played really well. It was great to see Jason M jumping up into
the play and the others standing their ground and not letting their opponent
gain their zone.

Great game guys and let's build on the strong effort as the tournament
progresses.

EASTER TOURNAMENT

Posted by: Kienan O on Fri Mar 26th 2010 8:55am

Hi Everyone,

Some tournament news:

There are 7 teams from Aurora and 7 teams from Newmarket in the tournament. They have been put into 3 pools (4/4/6) based on the current standings from each association. We are pooled with Aurora White and Aurora Red along with 3 Newmarket teams. We will play each Newmarket team once. The other 2 pools will each play 2 Newmarket teams and 1 Aurora team in their pool. Two teams from our pool will move to the semi finals.
Semis and Finals will be played on Sunday.
Point format is still to be determined. There may be a point system similar to the Showcase Tournament.

Below are our game times:

Thursday April 1st @6:00 p.m. ARCW
Saturday April 3rd @10:00 a.m. ARCW
Saturday April 3rd @5:00 p.m. ARCW

We still need timekeepers. Please let either Michelle or I know if your sons/daughters are interested. Volunteer hours will be awarded for each game. There will be 2 timekeepers per game and one will be an experienced timekeeper who will train any newbie’s.

I have heard through the grapevine that some parents/players have some misgivings about the tournament/tournament timing. This tournament is set up to be for fun. If you and your player are unavailable for any or all games please don’t feel that there is any pressure to attend. We all realize that Easter weekend in a busy time for many families and that hockey sometimes has to take a backseat. Please let me know if you are unable to attend any/all games.

Thanks again and I look forward to seeing everyone out on Saturday.
