Tournament Update

Posted by: Jeffrey Smith on Tue Jan 17th 2012 3:39pm

How does it feel to be the 2011 Chedoke Christmas Tournament Champions. Interestingly, there were 3 other Brantford teams to make the finals but we were the only ones to come out victorious. Along the way we not only went unbeaten but we scored the most goals of any team in the tournament. As a goalie, the statistic I am the most proud of is that we allowed the fewest goals in the entire tournament (even counting the extra games we played). Aaron and Brandon V gave us outstanding goaltending the entire tournament. Brandon W, Aidan, Jonathan, Nolan, Alex and Darian were consistently solid on Defence. Sometimes the goal scorers get the glory as they often should. However, it is those guys in the back that hold down the fort and deserve allot of credit. Nevertheless, congratulations again to each and every one of you because ALL of you contributed immensely to our victory.
Next tournament is the Brantford Church Tournament of Friends on Jan 27-29. The schedule has been posted. House League practices on Saturday have been eliminated that weekend and House League games have been moved to Sunday afternoon.

I have also received confirmation that we have been accepted into the Alliance Provincial Championship tournament in April.

Christmas Paintball Party

Posted by: Jeffrey Smith on Sat Dec 03rd 2011 8:45pm

The plans for our Christmas PARTY have been set. The team will go paintballing on Saturday December 10th at H&H paintball on Colborne St E. Our session is from 2:00 – 4:00 on Saturday afternoon. The session includes rental equipment, balls and everything you need as well as pizza and pop at 4ish after our session. The cost is $30 per player for everything included. You are free to bring a friend/sibling with you if you wish and they will simply pay the $30 as well. If you are bringing someone with you or if you cannot make it that day then please let me know ahead of time so that I can give an indication of numbers to the paintball place.

Helping the Mini Macs

Posted by: Jeffrey Smith on Sat Dec 03rd 2011 8:46pm

I have spoken with Terry McCready, the convenor of the Mini Macs Learn to Skate program. This is normally for kids 5-7 years old and it is generally their first experience learning to skate. They are always in need of people on the ice to help the kids whether it is teaching them balance, picking them up when they fall, fixing their helmet – whatever needs doing. I have helped out on occasion and frankly, I find it very rewarding to see the smiles and sheer enthusiasm in the eyes of the young children as they ‘embark on their hockey careers’.
To help Terry out with the group, I have volunteered the team to go out on the ice and help with the kids. For those in High School, this counts as Volunteer Hours and either Terry or I can sign your sheet to confirm the hours. More importantly however, this is our chance to give back to the hockey community and to remind every one of us what hockey is REALLY all about – FUN! If this game isn’t fun then you shouldn’t play. I am confident that being out on the ice and seeing the joy on the faces of these little children will put a smile on your face and remind you of why we do what we do. Not to mention, I think the kids will get a big kick and perhaps even be a bit in awe of being helped by one of the “99ers”. That is why I would ask you to wear your game jerseys when you attend. Also you need to wear a helmet and gloves to go on the ice but that’s it – neither full equipment nor a stick is necessary. When you arrive go to the Coaches’ dressing room to put on your skates and Terry or another coach will meet you there.
Mini Mac sessions are from 5:00 to 6:30 every Monday night. We will send 3 players to each session for about the next month and a half. Each player is expected to go at least once. Included below is the schedule for the players to attend. If you want more volunteer hours then feel free to go more than once – just let me know ahead. If you cannot make your designated slot for some reason then please make arrangements yourself to switch with another player. Terry will be advising me of who attended each session. I have checked and there is currently no conflict with any of the Select or House League games. If for some reason you cannot make any of the sessions at all then come see me directly.
