Oilers captured their first shutout of the season today with a 3-0 win over the Red Wings. Goalie Wes was happy to keep all the shots aimed his way from passing through, and came up with a few top-notch saves. Wes' GAA goes down to 1.75 now, the best in our division. Congrats Wes!
Most of the play was in the Oilers offensive zone, however, and kept the Red Wings from creating trouble most of the game. All the players gave a first-class effort again today, and the results show on the scoreboard. Goals today were by Justin W., from Colton and Mathieu, Carlos from Justin W., and Justin W. from Corey and Evan. Justin W. had a three-point day - way to go Justin!

On behalf of the members of the Hockey
Development Centre for Ontario (HDCO), we are
pleased to once again encourage amateur hockey
teams in Ontario to participate in the 22nd edition of
the Penalty Free Sweepstakes.
The Penalty Free Sweepstakes is open to
any amateur hockey team in Ontario that plays a
penalty free game between December 6, 2008 and
January 31, 2009.
Each member of your team will receive a memento
acknowledging their penalty free play. In addition, a
random draw will be held at the end of the contest for
teams to win $75,000 in exciting prizes.
The Sweepstakes continues to be a tremendous
success with over 124,864 teams entering the
contest in the last twenty-one years. It has been
through the assistance of the thousands of hockey
volunteers in Ontario that the Penalty Free

2008-2009 will mark the 75th season that the Ontario Minor Hockey Association [OMHA] will be delivering quality hockey programming to our members. Over those 75 years the OMHA has reached well over seven million participants throughout the province of Ontario. The 75th anniversary will celebrate our proud past, current status and exciting future through a series of special events, recognition programs, commemorative merchandise and memorabilia.

Commemorative Patches, supplied by the OMHA, have been applied to all our jerseys as a souvenir of the 2008 - 2009 hockey season.

Oilers kept the pressure going once again, defeating the Penguins 3-1 today for their 6th win in a row. Oilers started the scoring half-way through the first period, with a goal by Michael, assisted by Corey. Colton popped one in the five-hole half-way through the second period, on a breakaway from Evan.
The Pens got their lone goal while killing a penalty late in the third frame, catching the Oilers off-guard. The Oilers replied 13 seconds later with a power play goal to finish the scoring, by Chris, with assists from Justin B. and Carlos.
Once again, good forechecking combined with good passing kept the puck away from Penguin sticks for a good part of the game. The scrambles around the Penguins net kept them from leaving their defensive zone on many occasions throughout the game.

Congratulations to all players again for their persistence through all 3 periods.

The team has only allowed 1 goal against in each of their last 3 games now, giving us the second-best GAA in our division. Keep up the great work boys!

Oilers managed to control the pervasive Avalanche on November 15th, racking up one goal in each period for a 3-1 win. The last goal was on a power play with only 3 seconds left in the game, when the Av's had pulled their goalie in a desperate attempt to gain a tie. Oilers brought the puck into the Av's zone, and fought hard until the puck was in the net. Goals today were by Josh, Chris, and Colton, with the assists on the latter empty-netter by Justin W. and Mathieu. Wes was a key factor in the defense department, making several key saves on difficult shots.

Oilers are now undefeated in their last 5 games, and remain the only team in the division without any ties. Passing has remained as a key element in all 5 victories so far. The team has also racked up 6 power play goals in the last 4 games.

Congratulations to all players for their perseverance in today's match, as the pressure was continuous throughout the three periods.
