Coach's Closing Comments

Posted by: Ken Blazey on Sun May 02nd 2010 10:46pm

Once again I have the great pleasure of closing the website for the summer. This year has definitely had its ups and downs, but one thing remained very clear for all of us to gather - no matter what happens during the regular season, it was all dependent upon EFFORT to rally and change the direction that the team was headed. Our team was at one point in last (10th) place with only four games left in the regular season, but the boys turned it around with a focused EFFORT and scored 19 goals in the next 4 games, allowed only 8 goals against, and won all four, going into the playoffs in seventh place. The record continued until the 5th round robin game, and we finished the round robin in second place overall with a 3-1-1 record.
Unfortunately the streak came to an end before we reached the final, but the impressive turn-around only proved that anything is possible with the proper EFFORT from all team members.
Every team in the League feared the Oilers by the time the playoffs was over, as they recognized the team spirit that we had generated.
All team members should take note of this very valuable life lesson.

Thanks to my coaching staff one more time for the consistent loyalty and our efforts to help the team play as an effective unit. Thanks also to our Co-Parent Reps, Irene & Tracey, whose loyalty and commitment is very much appreciated. Parents are the backbone of every minor hockey team, and ours were no exception - thanks to all of you for your support and cooperation the entire season!

I have been granted the Midget Oilers for the 2010-11 season, so watch for a new website for next year! I will post an update here when the new site is created. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible again next season! Have a great summer,

Coach Ken

Leafs win it all in Championship Final

Posted by: Ken Blazey on Sun Mar 28th 2010 1:34pm

The Championship Final game between Leafs and Penguins was decided Saturday evening in regulation time, as the Leafs dominated the game and came out on top with a 6-3 final score.

Congratulations to both teams for an exciting finish to the 2009 - 2010 season.

Next season will be very interesting, as two years of players are combined in the Midget age group - players born in 1993 and 1994. This season there were 16 teams in two divisions of 8 each, and we expect that the 2010 - 2011 season will be very similar in numbers.
Stay tuned for the Midget Oilers website to be announced in the upcoming weeks.
