Stonewall Hearn Earns First Shutout of Season

Posted by: Tim Coles on Sat Nov 21st 2009 11:25pm

The Ennismore Eagles Atom "A" team played host to Port Hope this afternoon on picture day in the home nest. The building was chaotic to say the least. Cheryl needed an extra head to keep track of all the comings and goings in the day.

The eagles looked great in their team photo with faces only their mother's could love. Stonewall Hearn looked especially sharp on photo day, both on and off the ice, recording his first shutout of the year! Nice Job Stoooonwaaaallll!

"Catchem" Kangas was back and looking good with his bronze tan after returning from the sunny south jumping into the play on several occasions earning a goal and two assists on his first day on skates in over a week.

Ennismore will face Port Hope one more time this season, but will soon be facing much stiffer competition at the Regional Silver Stick Tournament in Wasaga Beach this coming weekend. Coach Doug Robinson has the Eagles on the ice 5 times this week in preparation for what is sure to be an exciting weekend for the boys in green.

Looking forward to seeing everyone . . . everyday this week! Work hard and have fun Eagles!

The game that almost wasn't

Any Referee Will Do!
Any Referee Will Do!

The Eagles headed for the big water, turned left and into downtown Baltimore for a rematch against the Ice Dogs. It was the game that almost didn't happen. Coaches were patently pacing at the bench, parents were commenting that it was a long way to come for a practice . . . and finally a referee showed up! In jeans none the less.

The teams were happy to get the game underway and hats off to the time keeper, as we were able to see two 15's and a 10 minute period.

The game was a fast paced event with the Dogs showing a lot of strength early on. The Eagles seem to have a strategy of wearing down their opponent in the first period and then filling the net in the last two periods. This was the case again tonight.

There was a new voice in the stands tonight and he's got pipes!! "Mad Dog" Mills was on the sideline with an undisclosed upper body injury. He assured me that he would rather be on the ice and anticipates a speedy recovery, with a return to play as early as Saturday.

In the absence of "Mad Dog" Mills and the still vacationing "Catchem" Kangas, coach Robinson called up a goalie and a defence man to fill their shoes. The goalie, "Post to Post" Wake didn't seem in the least bit lost out side of the blue ice as he assisted on three Eagles goals, including a power play goal at the end of the third period. Big "D" Healey seemed to be at home breaking up several rushes by the Ice Dogs. Great play guys!

The final score of the bird vs. dog outing saw the birds take the 2 points with an 8 - 1 victory.

The Eagles are back on the ice against Port Hope on Saturday right after getting their picture taken at 12:20. Smile!

The lights were on in Brighton!

They didn't come this little in Brighton
They didn't come this little in Brighton

Today’s game had the Western Division Ennismore Eagles in a cross over match up with the Eastern Division Brighton Braves in what proved to be a game full of action and well worth the gate fee. Brighton proved to be a strong opponent keeping it at a fast and physical pace. Carter, showing great versatility and always the team player, stepped up and offered to take on the task of playing defense back at the blue line for our absent Catchem Kangas. Big ‘T’ had us on the score sheet with one in the first and again in the second while Brighton remained scoreless throughout most of the game with some great saves and acrobatics by our mighty Stonewall. The passing keeps getting better, definitely starting to be one of our strengths against the opponents. Great teamwork boys, a win well deserved.

It must be like herding cats for John to get all that into the schedule! Thanks all who put the time into making our schedule happen!

The schedule e-mailed out today is now on the website, including the Wasaga Beach Tournament games.

I heard it was great fun in Brighton last night! Sorry I missed it . . . looking forward to the Bulldogs Tuesday.

Eagles swoop down on Bulldogs

This doesn't happen often!

The Baltimore Bulldogs looked ready to take the prize today with a strong showing in the first period. With end to end rushes it looked like it would be a close game as the Bulldogs were looking for a split in the series after their 5 - 1 loss to the eagles earlier in the season.

The Eagles patiently waited for their oppourtunity to strike and strike first they did with a tick tack toe play between "T 1" and "T2" to "Xcalibre" for the game's fist goal. The tick tack toe plays were plentiful and beautiful.

With "Catchem" Kangas basking in the southern sun, "Big T" Thompson held down the left side of the blue line with more than one of his BIG shots making the Bulldogs a bit nervous.

Even though the Bulldogs made a bid for a comeback, the Eagles kept the spread wide, like the butterfly saves of "Stonewall" Hearn for a 10 - 5 win at home.

Fan of the game goes to "Claw" Coles and the musical award goes out to "B-Man" Budnick for his crack, tick, ding - stick, goal mask, crossbar and out of play.
