Cheifs win come from behind battle on home ice.

The Chiefs come back to win.
The Chiefs come back to win.

The Lakefield Chiefs scored 4 unanswered goals to gain the lead 4-3 going into the third period at home in Lakefield Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles lead the game 3 - 0 but then Lakefield made their move and gained momentum to take the lead. The third period was a feverish pace.

The result of the game was a 6 -5 Lakefield Exhibition win. The Eagles are 8 - 0 in the regular season, but Lakefield is 2 - 0 in the Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield Exhibition series.

A Lakefield mother commented to me after the game, "We won . . . but it didn't count!" It may not have counted in the season but it did count in the hearts of the Lakefield Chiefs Atom "A"s. This come from behind win may just give the Cheifs the emotional edge for the next game between the two teams. We'll see what Coach Robinson has for his boys to prepare for the next match between these to teams.

End to End match ends in Eagles favour

Humours tail chasing at centre ice.
Humours tail chasing at centre ice.

The Ennismore Eagles Atom "A" team landed in the town of Oakwood tonight to play the Mariposa Lightning for the second exhibition game between the two teams this season. It was a feverish end to end quick paced game that saw both goalies tested and players longing for their 43.5 second shifts to be over.

Both teams came to win but the Eagles seemed a bit more fearless crashing hard on the boards to keep the puck in the offensive zone and crashing the net to light the lamp.

First time call ups "Posty" Post and "Slash" Edwards made themselves known with beautiful mid ice rushes and power strides across the blue line. "Luker" Schenn . . . I mean Robinson got play maker of the game, with three solid assists, but the rest of the team deserves credit for making this one of the most exciting games of the year!

Did you see that? Ya, that was "Zipper" Harwood racing from the bench to stop a breakaway attempt that was an easy 20 feet ahead of him. And what about that cool blocker save from "Stonewall" Hearn to keep the Lightning at just one? And what was that at centre ice?! Looked like a dog chasing his tail . . . no it was "Claw" Coles chasing a Lightning player around on his knees trying to retrieve his stick from his opponent's skate. Too funny to call a penalty . . .

With a few less challenging teams in the regular season loop, Mariposa was a welcome match for the soaring Eagles. Thanks for the great game Lightning!

The Eagles are on the ice again tomorrow night against the Chiefs in Lakefield. Tickets are an easy $4.00, so get yours before their gone!

Special H1N1 prevention note . . . Trainers Johnny Walsh and Charlie Harwood have your kids health in mind with individual water bottles on the bench. I heard they thought they missed half the game searching for names and numbers, but we parents sure do appreciate their work! Thanks guys!

"Big Blake": Monster first period for Port Hope

Posted by: Tim Coles on Sun Nov 08th 2009 7:43am

#30 "Big Blake": a Monster in the net
#30 "Big Blake": a Monster in the net

After a lopsided win in Port Hope on October 25th, the Eagles were pretty confident of an easy win at home Saturday, but Port Hope had other ideas.

The opening frame looked like Port Hope was going to make this a challenge and just like a beleaguered Toronto Maple Leafs, the team was looking for confidence in the net to get them going - and they got it! #30 "Big Blake" was a WALL in the net for the first period! Shot after shot on the Port Hope goal was rejected by "Big Blake".

After several breakaways were solidly turned away the rest of the Port Hope team started to respond with a lot more energy than we saw in the first game. #30's goaltending was giving them a lift and the eagles found themselves reacting.

The eagles finally found the back of the net late in the first when "Mad Dog" Mills and "Hammer" Hearn fed "Claw" Coles for the game's first goal. But this didn't deter Port Hope and they kept the Eagle's lead to just one for the remainder of the first.

The game was a physical one but the Eagles kept the gas pedal down for the remaining two periods, some times even making beautiful plays with out a stick, as was the case for "Xcalibre" Malllory in one blue-line skirmish - soccer anyone? 8 different players recorded goals including "Luker" Robinson who called for the hats after his goal at 9:33 in the third period.

Special mentions go to hard working "Hammer" Hearn, back from the sick bed "Carter" who was looking pretty good after a week in bed, and "Stonewall" Hearn - who was a Stone Wall.

Eagles are back on the ice for a practice Sunday night in preparation for a return matchup with the Mariposa Lightening on Monday.

Candy Crash - Energy in Spurts

Posted by: Tim Coles on Sun Nov 01st 2009 11:27pm

The Atom "A" Eagles flew back into Lakefield this afternoon to face top division rivals the Lakefield Chiefs. With these two teams at the top of the regular season standings you know it is going to be a good, hard fought game.

The teams seemed to have energy in spurts, likely a result of the previous evening's candy gathering and consuming. It was hard to move the puck between the blue lines and even harder to get it on the net.

The Eagles were missing "Carter" due to the flu but enjoyed the play of call up "Big Joe" Foley. "Big Joe", often referred to as the "Bob Gainey of Ennismore" played with offensive prowess, but always staying on his defensive game on his wing. "Big Joe" was rewarded for his efforts with the credit of a helper on a goal scored by "Big T" Thompson in the second period.

The Eagles managed to fight off a late third period rally by the Chief's to put them at 7 - 0 on the season. The next game between these two division rivals will be on December 12th in Ennismore. Tickets will be going fast for this one, so get yours today!
