Only One Team Gets Silver.. Be Proud!!

You cannot judge a team based on the results of one game, at least not the Dynamites!!. Although the final game of the season did not go exactly as planned, it by no means defined this team, other than the fact that they kept playing right until the last whistle. With goals from "Dynamic" Dufour and "Leader on the Ice" Lapierre it was not quite enough to answer the 7 goals scored by the opposition. However, both goals were special in their own way; Dufour scored an incredible goal from behind the net and Lepierre scored with only 30 seconds left in the game.

But if I was to summarize this season it would be, Hard Work, Dedication, Come from Behind, Fantastic Team Players and FUN!! I have only been around a few teams that had so many special people both on the ice, around the ice and in the stands. I think I speak for most, if not all the parents, brothers, sisters, friends and other family members… thank you! Thank you to the coach, assistant coaches, manager, treasurer, trainers, cheerleaders, bus driver, and especially the players, you have made this season very memorable.

Best of luck to all the players in your future hockey lives – to the second year Atom players moving on “Dynamic” Dufour, “Leader on the Ice” Lapierre, “Gritty” Goudie, “Defensive Superstar” Doucette, “Holy Cow” Howe, and “Leave it to” Laroche, all the best in Pee Wee hockey. You were leaders on this team and are ready to move on! Also, to the first year Atom players “Carry the puck” Carignan, “Magnificent” McKenzie, “Superb” St Denis, “Stellar” Switzer, “Can’t Put it Past” Pablo, “ Wondergirl” Wicks, and “The Wall” Van Scherrenburg – you will no doubt be leaders on your team next year and ready for that challenge!

Dynamites Win Way to Finals!!

Posted by: Shawn Goudie on Sat Mar 31st 2012 2:53pm

What a week of hockey. It all started on Friday when the Dynamites played two games, followed by 1 game on Saturday and 2 games on Sunday. But it didn't stop there; the team also had two playoff games to play, one on Monday and the last one on Tuesday. After an exciting weekend, finishing as a Finalist in the Kanata Tournament, you would have thought there might not be enough in the tank for the two remaining playoff games.

Needing two points in two games to get to the League Championships, the Dynamites were pumped and confident. Although the Dynmaites did not play their best game on Monday versus another GCGH team. A win would have ensured our trip to the finals and after “Hit it Home” Howe started off the scoring ,we thought we were good, but GCGH-1did their best to make that not happen. They scored twice in the second and we went into the third behind. But a late goal from "Lights Out" Laperrier tied the game to keep us in the hunt for a championship.

The game on Tuesday now meant as much, if not more than the game on Monday. A loss and the Dynmaites run for the title would be over. After 6 games in 4 days, it all came down to one final game against Nepean 1. The battle was back and forth and although we had plenty of chances to score, none of the players could get the puck behind their goalie. But the Dynamites were also up to the task. “The Wall” Van Scherrenburg” was outstanding, stopping every shot that came her way. Especially when with 1 minute left to play, Nepean put on the pressure. Luckily, a tie was all that was needed to put is in to the finals.

So come out on Sunday and support your favourite team. With a well needed rest and a practice on Saturday to hone our skills, it should be a very interesting game. Especially, when we are playing Ottawa 1, a team whom we have shared both wins and losses against.

Go Dynamites Go…Leave it all on the ice and go out with a KABOOM!

Finalists with a KABOOM!!

Posted by: Shawn Goudie on Mon Mar 26th 2012 10:05pm

This past weekend, your Dynamites entered a tournament in which the expectations were set high based on both League play and past Tournament results. However, the Round Robin did not quite go as the coaches and players had planned. The Dynamites tied 2 games, in WOW fashion; I must say and lost 1. But like true Dynamites spirit, we tied our two games with a KABOOM!!
The first game had us trading off goals with the Cornwall Black team. “Lights Out” Lapierre scored 2 and had 1 assist and “Cool as Ice” Carignan scored 1 and helped on another.
The second game had us play Cornwall’s sister team, Blue 2. This game was the opposite of the first game. Instead of leading from the start, it had us behind by two in the 3rd period with only 5 minutes left to play. Again, one player shone above the rest and scored two goals within less than a minute apart. “Lights Out” Lapierre dug deep and scored with help from “Swift” Switzer and “Cool as Ice” Carignan.

In game 3 of 3 in our round robin, little did we know at the time that the pure heart and never give up attitude of our team, especialy one “Lights Out” Lapierre would allow us to move into the semi-finals. With time running out and down 3-1 to Sudbury, when most teams would have given up, we scored a goal to make the final score 2-3 for Sudbury. However, it was that one goal that pushed us past the other 4 teams in our pool and allowed us to move on to the Semi Finals.
In the semi-finals game, “Cool as Ice” Carignan would yet again help our team move into a tie with the opposition, scoring in the first period. The game would go back and forth and both goalies stood on their heads. But on this day, “The Wall” Van Scherrenburg would stand taller with the help of another hero from the team. Feeling sick and pulling herself out from time to time throughout the game to recoup, “Just Do It” Dufour scored with only .04 seconds remaining in the first Over Time period to allow the team to move on to the finals.
In the finals the Dynamites would meet up with Ottawa 2, a team we had beaten in the regular season playoffs just two weeks ago. The Ottawa 2 team was looking for vengeance and wanted to win this game badly. The Dynamites however, were going to make it as tough for the Ottawa team as possible. “Super Girl” St-Denis scored with less than 40 seconds into the first period. It looked like our team was destined to win. Unfortunately, Ottawa 2 on this day would get their revenge. They scored two late goals to go up 2-1 and take home the cup. But Ottawa 2 knows that it was no easy win and although a tournament win is fun…we hope to have more games in the League playoffs and finals.

An honourable mention and a huge thank you has to go out to Mark Van Scherrenburg and his crew who decorated an OC bus in true KABOOM style with Dynamites on the side and personalized seats for not only the girls but also the Coaches, Manager, Trainers, Photo Guy and Fans. This will be something that will be remembered for years to come.
