Well the ITS Transportation Jr Bulls were back in action on Thursday in the tight confines of Memorial Arena. Definitely not our best arena by a mile but it seems to be feeling pretty homey lately. For the second game in a row, the Bulls broke open the scoring to down the visiting Port Perry "Hillbillies". Oops did I actually print that? After last night's class act by the visitors, I guess we know where the players actions come from!!! Now back to the action. Things didn't start out very promising for the locals as Port scored on a long icing 21 seconds into the 1st when Dylan Bouwers misplayed the puck. However, the shock soon wore off and turned to desperation for the boys as they pressured the visitors every time they touched the puck and caused a turnover which the Bulls capitalized on to tie the game at one by David Lytle from Evan Greer and Sam Chartrand. Belleville made it a 2-1 lead minutes later on a Dylan Murray shot from Tyler Diamond. That lead would hold up from some good forechecking from the Bulls until 4 minutes into the 2nd when the bUlls let a lone Port player in behind the defence to tie the game up. Port added another goal very similar when another forward got behind our D a couple of minutes later. Luckily the Bulls didn't roll over and kept attacking the slow Port Defence and Jordan Cormier threw a seeing eye puck through a Port defenceman into the net to tie the game up again. Riley Muise and Adam Finley got the helpers. However, the Bulls couldn't hold the tie as again they gave up another goal by way of another Port forward sneaking in behind our D again. After a spirited intermission, the Bulls came our fired up and took the game back. Dylan Murray got his second of the game from Tyler Diamond and Tyler Beer. While the Bulls kept their composure for the rest of the period, the Port players couldn't and ended up taking some very undisciplined penalties to which the ITS boys made them pay with Lytle's 2nd goal of the game from Tyler Diamond. Things got totally out of hand a minute later as a Port Player lost his composure and put the visitors a men down for the last 4 minutes of the game. Belleville got their 6tg goal of the game on a power play from Tyler Diamond unassisted with 30 seconds to go to seal the 6-4 win for the Bulls. The win seals the playoff matchups for Belleville but they can move up the standings with a couple wins this weekend to determine who they play. No matter who the opponent is, the Bulls need to keep the attitude and work ethic positive this weekend and build some momentum for the 1st round of playoffs.
Well hoping we could skake the inconsistency thing wasn't enough. Looks klike theb oys are going to have to bear down and really work at being consistent as they split a pair of Lakeshore league games this week. Saturday night in Port Perry the boys muddled through some very bizarre reffing that allowed more headshots than we have seen all year. Needless to say Port gets away with it at home and play that way to intimidate other teams. However, it seems to work as the home side skated away with a 4-0 win. Nothing went right for the ITS Bulls on the night but the boys have another shot at redemption this Thursday Jan 7th at home. The penalty filled affair luckily ended with no suspensions or injuries. Dylan Bouwers took the loo in net.
Sunday the ITS Bulls were home to the Pickering Panthers looking for some payback for an earlier loss in Pickering. Well when the boys put their mids to it, they can achieve just about anything they want. At the end of the night, the locals bombarded the Panthers with an attcking forecheck and threw dozens of shots st the helpless goalie. Final score 11-1 Belleville. It was also nice to see all the scoring spread around as well. Snipers for the Bulls were Riley Muise(2G, 2A), Jordan Cormier(2G, 1A), Dylan Murray(2G, 1A), Sam Chartrand(1G), Evan Greer(1G, 2A), Dante Riganelli(1G, 2A), Adam Finley(1G), and David Lytle(1G, 2A). Assists went to Tyler Diamond(3A), Tyler Lobb(2A), Mike Joyce(3A), Tyler Beer(2A) and Brett Bateman(1A). Andrew Gnagnarella took the win. Up next to close out the season are Port Perry, Uxbridge and Whitby. Time to get some consistency in the win columns heading into playoffs and build some momentum and confidence going.
The ITS Midgets were looking to close out 2009 on a roll with their last three games. Things got off to a good start exacting some revenge on the Uxbridge Stars with a 2-1 win. Belleville dominated the play but couldn't find the back of the net on some great scoring chances. David Lytle from Tyler Diamond and Evan Greer got the boys off to a quick 1-0 lead but the sTras got an easy one back minutes later to tie the score at 1. With 2 minutes to go in the second period, Evan Greer swooped around the Stars defence to put the ITS Midgets up 2-1. Brett Bateman provided the helper to Greer. That is the way the game ended but it was a costly win for the ITS crew as they lost Adam Finley to an early game CFB and Greer was slapped with a 3 game suspension from a controversial CTH with a minute to go. As is the flavour of the month, the boys will be shortahnded again for several games.
Up next again for the Bulls were the Whitby Widcats who the boys were pumped up to play after getting the short end of the stick up in Whitby. Bulls roared out of the gate and scored 26 seconds into the game from Jordan Cormier from Dante Riganelli and Tyler Diamond. Belleville continued their aggressive play and eventually got another goal with 13 seconds remaining in the first on a good effort from Riganelli again. Dylan Murray and David Lytle supplied the helpers. If not for some good goaltending for the Wildcats, the Bulls would have had a much more sizeable lead coming out in the third. Unfortunately the Wildcats got a lucky bounce to lead to their first goal of the game early in the third which stunned the bUlls for a few minutes and retreated onto their heals for a few minutes. However, that was shortlived as the Bulls responded with their tight forecheck and hemmed the Cats in their own endzone for most of the third eventually leading to the third Bulls tally from Dylan Murray from Diamond and Riganelli. That was all the Bulls needed as Andrew Gnagnarella shut the door for the Bulls. The win was Bulls third in a row.
After a long Xmas rest and obviously too much turkey, the boys had a lone game on the weekend after Boxing Day. Things started out slowly for the ITS Bulls and didn't really change much. Trenton got out to a quick lead as usual on a obvious offside goal that was missed by the linesman. That seemed to compound the Bulls woes as they just couldn't get anything going. Hawks padded their lead midway through the 2nd period on a defensive lapse by the Bulls defenceman. However, Bulls got some hope late in the 2nd period when Sam Chartrand snuck a seeing eye puck by the Hawks tender on a nice rush around the Trenton Defence. Brett Bateman and Jordan Cormier picked up assisits. That goal seemed to give some life to the Bulls who came out in the third with a renewed objective and carried the play until they tied the game on a Riley Muise topshelfer in close. Tyler Lobb and Tyler Diamond picked up helpers. Belleville had some energy now and could taste success on Trenton for the next 5 minutes. However, some mental mistakes cost the boys their lead when Hawks broke in on a breakaway after a giveaway at center ice and put the Hawks up 3-2. That was followed by another empty net goal less than 20 seconds later to seal the win for the Hawks. Belleville had their chances on Trenton but just couldn't finish on the night. Gnaggy took the loss in net but it was definitely a team loss with a sluggish effort all night. Bulls get back to action in a very busy two weeks after New Years looking to solidify third place in Lakeshore League play and sew up Home Ice for first round.
The ITS Jr Bulls got back to league play in Pickering on Tuesday night but wished they stayed home this night. From the drop of the puck both teams were frustrated by the inconsistent calls and non-calls by a very young reffing crew. Blatant calls were missed and phantom calls were made up. However, it just wasn't a pretty effort as nothing went right and some sloppy play from goaltending to defence to forwards made for one long night. Even the coaching staff were off as they couldn't get the periods right!!! Chipping in with goals for the Bulls were Dylan Murray and Tyler Diamond with Dante Riganelli and Tyler Lobb getting helpers. Dylan Bouwers took the loss in net.
Saturday the ITS crew headed West to Clarington to take on the Toros who have had the Bulls # on two previous occasions. For the third time in a row it looked like the Toros were heading away with an easy win until the Bulls got dirty and mounted an impressive 5 goal comeback to erase a 3 goal deficit and win 5-3. The Bulls dominated the first half of the period but as usual hit a couple of posts and the opposition came down the ice and scored to take the momentum away from us. The Toros added 2 more to take a commanding lead of 3-0 early into the second period. However, the bulls got a crack on the power play and Dylan Murray converted to regain some momentum back. Before the end of the 2nd, the Bulls Adam Finley banged in a Tyler Diamond shot past a surprised Clarington goalie. The Bulls converted another power play early in the third by Tyler Beer to get the Bulls even and carrying the play. The bUlls had numerous chances throughout the third but couldn't capitalize until midway through when Jordan Cormier put another Tyler Diamond rebound away. Evan Greer sealed the win on a loose puck squirting away from some good digging along the boards by Diamond to breakaway outskating two Toros defenders to put it away into an open net. 5 straight goals by a depleted Bulls roster with only 9 skaters was a very inspirational and determined effort after going down early 3-0. Bouwers stood tall the last half of the game giving the Bulls the chance to get back into the game. Hopefully the boys can rally around that sort of second effort and carry the momentum into Sunday's home match against Uxbridge.
Coming off of an impressive weekend away at the Ottawa tourney, the Jr Bulls sstrated off a little lethargic and were scrambly for most of the first period before they got their forecheck established again. Ajax went up 1-0 on a long shot that Gnaggy probably wished he had back. However, he bounced back from it and was solid the rest of the game giving the Bulls a chance to get unwound which the did midway through the second on a nice rush and finish by Dylan Murray topshelf. Murray adeded a second on the night just before the period ended sending the ulls into the intermission with a 2-1 lead. The boys came out flying in the third taking the play to the Axemen keeping them hemmed into theor own end for most of the period. 4 minutes into the third the Bulls potted an insurance goal from David Lytle in the slot. Belleville thought they had the goal earlier as a shot went in behing the Ajax keeper and was dragged out before the ref could skate over to see it in the net. Not to worry though as the bUlls shut down the Ajax attacke with a stifling forecheck the rest of the game and came out 3-1 winners for the second straight win over Ajax. Up next for the boys is an away game in Pickering Tuesday night.
