Rangers get first division win - Beat Mayfield 6-1

The Lakewood Rangers notched their first Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League Blue division win on Sunday night as they defeated the Mayfield Wildcats 6-1.
Junior captain Will Holden led the way for Lakewood as he scored three times for a hat trick while Freshman defenseman Austin Scherer scored twice and sophomore defenseman Alex Blinky also scored for the Rangers.
Holden also had an assist, while Senior Captain Ben Manner had two assists, freshman forward Dylan Yatson carded two assists and Senior forward Jared Yocabet and Senior forward Kyle Priddy also got an assist.
Junior goaltender Rob Holden turned away 10 Wildcat shots while notching his second victory of the season.
The two teams will see each other again on Saturday night January 5th, Alumni night, when they face off in a 7pm contest at Serpentini Ice Arena in Lakewood.
Normandy drops Rangers 6-0

Normandy's Invaders dropped the Rangers to 0-2 in the Blue North division on Tuesday night by virtue of a 6-0 victory over the Rangers. Lakewood's Rob Holden kept the Rangers close through the first two periods with 55 saves in the game (39 in the first two periods) but Normandy displayed just too much firepower for the Rangers to overcome.
The Rangers remain on the road with a Sunday night contest against the Mayfield Wildcats. The puck will drop at 5pm at Gilmour Academy's Ice rink in the Blue North divisional game .
Rangers drop a pair in opening weekend

The Lakewood Rangers dropped a pair on contests this weekend in opening up the 2018-19 season. On Saturday night, Lakewood dropped a 7-3 decision to the Parma Rangers. Falling behind 4-0, the Rangers fought back to make the score 6-3 late in the game, but gave up a late goal for the final score. Ranger forward Will Holden had all three of the Rangers goals in the contest while net minder Rob Holden stopped 42 shots in the game.
On Sunday night, the Rangers traveled to Rocky River to face the defending Blue division Baron Cup champion Avon Lake. The Rangers led 1-0 after a strong first period. The Shoremen jumped out to a 3-2 lead after the second period on a power play goal late in the period. The third was all Avon Lake as he Shoremen added two goals midway through the period, and a final tally with 20 seconds left for the win.
Lakewood's return to action will be this weekend as they participate in the Normandy High School Thanksgiving tournament. The Rangers will skate against Chagrin Falls, Orange and Twinsburg in round robin games beginning Friday morning at the Ries Ice Arena in Parma.
Rangers complete Pre-season - Ready for Regular Season

The 2018-19 Lakewood Ice Hockey Rangers completed their pre-season schedule last night with a victory over Elyria Catholic. The squad now turns its attention to the start of the regular season and a pair of games on the opening weekend.
Saturday night , Lakewood hosts the Parma Redmen in a Blue North Divisional contest. The Redmen,dropping down to the Blue Division for the current season, are coming off of a 7-20 season in the White division. Lakewood, moves up to the Blue North following a divisional co-championship and an 18-10-1 overall record.
On Sunday, the Rangers will travel to the Hamilton Ice Arena in Rocky River to face off against the Avon Lake Shoremen in an independent contest. The two teams met once last year in the Baron Cup semi-finals where Avon Lake skated away with a 2-1 win.
Rangers beat Nordonia is 2nd preseason game - gear up for reg. season

The Lakewood Rangers were successful in their second preseason game vs the Nordonia Knights, defeating the Knights 8-2 at Serpentini Arena on Saturday night. Will Holden and Jared Yocabet scored for the Rangers as they will now get ready for their final pre-season game and the regular season opener.
On Wednesday night, the Rangers will travel to Elyria's North Park Ice arena for a pre-season contest against the Elyria Catholic Panthers at 7:30pm.
Following that, the Lakewood Icers will prepare for the regular season opener as they will host the Parma Redmen at 7pm Saturday night at Serpentini Arena in a Blue North divisional contest.
The Redmen and the Rangers have not met in the last two seasons. They last met during the 2015-16 season when Parma captured a pair of 6-0 contests from Lakewood. This year, the two teams are in the same division and will play in a home and home series. Following Saturday's game, the two teams will meet again in the final regular season game on February 3rd at Ries Arena in Parma at 3pm
