Lakewood Gearing up for 2018-2019 season
Posted by: Mark Ferfolia on Mon Sep 10th 2018 12:21pm
Lakewood's Ice Hockey Rangers, fresh off of a divisional championship last season, are beginning preparations to start the 2018-2019 season.
A divisional realignment in the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League will see the Rangers with a vastly different schedule and set of opponents. Members of the Rangers Blue North will include Parma, Aurora, Normandy, Mayfield, CVCA, NDCL,Brecksville as well as the Rangers. The Rangers have not played Parma in recent years, while the others have all been on Lakewood's schedule as independent opponents (with the exception of Mayfield) during Coach Ferfolia's tenure at LHS. The advancement of the Rangers into the top Blue conference of the GCHSHL will be a stiff challenge for the team, but one in which they hope to continue their improvement as they did the past three years. in 2015-16, the Rangers posted a 3-21 mark, improving to 13-16 (and 9-3 in the conference) in 2016-17 and then to 18-10 with an 11-1 record in the conference, winning their final 8 games to capture a share of the divisional crown.
The team will be led by captains Rob Holden (goaltender), Will Holden( forward) and Ben Manner (Forward). Both Holdens garnered all league honors last season while Manner will be suiting up for his third year in the Purple and Gold.
The team will open up its season with an exhibition game vs CVCA on Saturday November 3rd with the regular season opener a 7pm contest against Parma on Saturday November 17th at Serpentini Arena in Lakewood
