The Meteors and Lancers played their 4th game in 4 nights and it would all came down to game 6 in a best of 5 series (I know I am still trying to figure that one out).

The Lancers came in riding the high of a very solid team game on Sunday and continued their puck possession game to take a 1-0 lead on a rebound.

The visitors managed to tie the game at 1 a bit later on a rebound as well.

In the third the Lancers carried the play and had numerous chances to cash in but were turned away.

In the end the Meteors caught a fortunate bounce and took the lead with 40 seconds left.

The Lancers continued to press and came very close to getting the tie but there was not enough time and the final horn sounded with Mitchell winning 2-1.

Game Notes:

-There is too much to say after a game like that. In retrospect I would have to say it was one of the most exciting games I have been involved in the over 1000 games I have coached so far.

-A thanks to all the fans who not only decorated the arena but provided the team with much support during the season. The kids very much appreciated the hard work and noise.

-As the coaches told the player all during the playoffs our Atom B bracket started with about 25 teams and we made it to the final 4 which is a great accomplishment.

-At the start of the year I indicated in a welcome email what we thought the season would look like:

“Even though we are likely younger than most teams in our league, we are confident we will have a solid compete level and have some fun along the way.”

It is the belief of the coaching staff that we achieved what we wanted to do even though we fell one goal short.

Miracle On Manchester I mean Mitchell....

Backs againist the wall the Lancers travelled to Mitchell to try and gain 2 points and a return date with the Meteors.

The margin for error was very slim as even tie would end the Lancer season.

The Lancers drew first blood by capatilizing on an early opportunity however the lead was somewhat short lived as the home team tied the game at 1's prior to the end of the period.

In the second the Lancers cashed in on a rebound to take a 2-1 lead and then added another 3 minutes later to take the sometime hockey cursed 3-1 lead into the 3rd.

In the 3rd the Lancers and Meteors traded chances but the game clock winded down and the final horn sounded with a Lancer win.

Ths series has been one of highs and lows for both teams and is sure to make for a great game on Monday night.

Game Notes:

-The Lancers would like to thank all the fans who made it out on Sunday as well as the seniors and shut ins who were following the action on Panziera 1 radio station.

-Word on the street is the pre game speeches are becoming legendary that according to the people who give them.

-Rumour has it the Adams family is working the phones very hard in order to secure seats on the a Tuesday flight to FLA. According to Peter "money is no object however the amount is"

-Game time has been changed to 630 NOT 730. I don't have control over the site to change times. As a safeguard I have asked the folks @ N54 to update the hockey world as well.

Lancers Lose Heartbreaker

Posted by: dave weber on Sun Mar 11th 2012 8:38am

The Lancers and Meteors hooked up for game 4 on Saturday. The winner would take a commanding 5-3 lead and put all the pressure on the other squad.

Both teams came out hard with some early chances but were turned aside by strong positional play.

The visiting squad got on the board first and took the lead into the 3rd. In the 3rd the Lancers responded with a marker to tie the game at 1.

Nothing was settled and the game moved into OT.

In OT the Lancers had several chances including on that required the Mitchell goalie to make an outstanding toe save to keep the game tied.

With the Lancers on the PP, and a little over 3 minutes on the clock, the Meteors won a draw and found the back of the net to take the game 2-1.

Game Notes:

-The Lancer squad should not hang their heads as they played hard and with a bounce or two could have found themselves in the win column.

-Game 5 offers the Lancers a chance to create a one game winner take all scenario back in Lambeth

-Game time has been moved up to 445 and don't forget about the clocks moving as well.

Lancer Learn to Watch Their Lunch Money in Mitchell

Posted by: dave weber on Sat Mar 10th 2012 10:03am

The Lancers travelled to Mitchell looking to take a commanding lead in the 6 pt series.

Instead they Lancers learned a valuable lesson in what happens whens you are not prepared from the drop of the puck.

A consistently inconsistent effort was on full display Friday as missed passes, poor positonal play, weak sticks and ineffective backchecking was on the menu for the Lancers.

The Lancers showed they could compete, at times, but the home squad got a very much deserved 2 points.

Final Score Mitchell 4 Lambeth 1

Game Notes:

-The positives to take out of this game is the Mitchell win evens the series at 3 points a piece. The race is on now to see who can get to 3 first and regardless of who wins the simple formula will all be based on effort, teamwork, determination and winning small battles all over the ice.

-As mentioned prior to every playoff games attention to detail, even as small as positioning of a stick, can have an effect on opportunities. We found ourselves over skating or missing the puck by inches all over the ice. Part of it has to do with the way the games goes sometimes but some of it has to do with postion of a players body. Players are reminded that if they are reaching for a puck it usually means they have stopped moving their feet.

Lancers Avoid Meteor Storm

Posted by: dave weber on Mon Mar 05th 2012 11:43am

The Lancer and Meteors hooked up Sunday evening for a prime time affair. Both teams were looking to take control of the series which was tied at 1 point a piece.

The Lancers, having avoided an opening game loss with a dying seconds goal, were well aware that the leaving it to the end option may make for exciting hockey but leaves little margin for error.

From the drop of the puck the Lancers pressed the visitors and through hard work drew an early penalty and PP. The Lancers converted very quickly on the PP and before the fans could settle back into their seats popped another one to take a 2-0 lead less than 2 minutes in. With the Meteors trying to get their legs under them the Lancers continued to press and had a number of solid opportunities.

The Lancers extended their lead to 4-0 by converting some hard work and rebounds while the Mitchell squad broke the Lancer shutout bid. The Lancers got that one back shortly after and continued to press leaving the second period up 5-1.

In the third the Mitchell squad was looking to gain some momentum and they pressed hard but the Lancers were able to keep them at bay while adding two more late goals to end the affair at 7-2.

Game Notes:

-The Guinness Book of World record folks were on hand to validate the total number of people in the timekeepers’ booth. Unfortunately, the folks came up one short on the headcount but on the upside did a fantastic job of announcing the Lancer goals.

-Special thanks for the continued playing of Danzig by Chuck.

-The Lancers enjoyed their first class accommodations and very much enjoyed the fact they could watch TV while they got dressed.

-Lancers PK continued to work hard and maintain their very impressive results.

-Lancer players should be aware that Mitchell has been in this position before during the first two rounds and have the ability to turn things around very quickly. Based on this factor the Lancers are encouraged to hit the ice Friday ready to elevate their game to the next level. Anything less will likely not be enough.
