Physicals Underway

Posted by: Brad Robinson on Tue Sep 09th 2008 2:28pm

The North River Rangers are now in the physical examination stage of their pre-season.

Jon Grant came to camp with much more muscle mass, but after a short stint on the bike, he was on the outside looking in. Grant miserably failed the cardiovascular section of the physical.
"Jon really needs to improve on his cardio" noted long time father figure Garry Johnstone. Johnstone indicated that if Grant wants to keep pace with the elder statesmen of the team and back check effectively, he had "better get on the bike!"

The Rangers are slated to hit the ice sometime in the near future, an exact date is not known yet...

The North River Rangers will take to the ice tonight in Coldwater looking to secure the TNRL regular season title. The Rangers face off against much improved Matchedash Brewers club who have surprised many teams this year with there hustle and determination. In fact, the Rangers were victims of the Brewers relentless attack the last time the two teams met, losing 7-4.
Game time is 10:30pm…likely 11:00pm.

On a side note, there are two players competing for the coveted white dress award. Both Jason Heipel and Jamie Robinson are yet to notch a penalty minute this season. If they both complete the season without a PIM, they will have the honour of sharing the White Dress award, a feat never achieved by a North River Ranger player.

GRANT REVEALS HIS SECRETS TO SUCCESS

After a slow start to the season, 4th year Ranger Jonathan Grant, has finally started showing signs that he is breaking out of his scoring slump. In last night’s tilt versus the 5th place Warminster Yellow shirts, Grant tallied three goals and surprisingly notched two assists to help lead the Rangers to a convincing 8-3 win.

When asked about the reason for turning up his point production Grant gave full credit to his fellow teammates. “I just feel better knowing that I have a solid team behind me that is willing to help me look good anyway that they can. I love their back checking effort and knowledge to headman me the puck!” stated Grant in a post game interview at Rivers.

Grant then went on to mention a new technology that he has been trying out over the season to enhance his aerodynamic feel on the ice. “I have been training with the women’s speed skating team for the last two months and it has really given me some spring in my back checking.”

Grant credits the speed skating team for introducing him to the latest in speed wear, a full body suit designed for speed skating. “I may take a lot of flack in the dressing room from the guys for looking like a speed skater, but my performance on the ice backs up my tight outfit. I love the way it hugs my huge muscles” explained Grant.

With Grant now on the verge of another great season, the Rangers look to start a winning streak that will propel them to the top of the standings. A crucial step will take place next Thursday when they battle the Coldwater Merchants at the CCC.

Grant Struggles in 07-08

Posted by: Brad Robinson on Thu Dec 20th 2007 4:08pm

The North River Rangers have gotten the '07-'08 campaign off to a respectable start, but last year’s leading scorer Jonathan Grant has yet to produce for the team.

In a recent interview with the North River Telegram, Grant stated “I've gotta step it up” an obvious sign that Grant, himself, knows that his performance has been sub-par thus far.

Although Grant has shown up to most Ranger games this year, his point per game total is well below average for his Ranger carreer. Grant showed concern for his recent point production. “I've been slacking in the goal-producing department” explained Grant. Not known for his assist making, Grant relies on the tallies to pad his point total.

Grant will look to come out of his slump tonight as the Rangers play host to the Uhthoff Nationals. Game time is 8:30pm at the CCC.
