What a way to finish the season. The boys played there hearts out this weekend in the final games of the season
The weekend started with a game playing Siesic in the first round of the playoffs. Having never beat Siesic the boys played one of the most emotion felt games of Im sure most of there lives. The boys played incredible earning Varsity Blacks first playoff win ever, with a 2 to 1 shoot out win. Cody Egilson and Erik Hamelin scored the goals and Blake Pearson made the stops. Got to love playoff hockey.
Game 2 saw the boys playing there in house peer group again, playing Varsity Red in the Semi final. Again having never beat Varsity Red this season, or in the history of OHA, the boys backs were up against the wall, but came prepared for the challenge. the boys competed for every puck and stuck to the game plan, and never gave up. The game once again went into over time and with a point shot from Luke Kalenuik tipped by Cole Zimmerman, Varsity Black was off to the finals.
The final found themselves playing Edge Gold, the last team in Csshl which the boys had not beat this year. With emotions high and the excitement of the atmosphere of a championship game, the boys had a couple lapses and found themselves on the losing end of the game 5 to 1.
I am so extremely proud of the boys and the growth and experience gained this year. Great way to end the season.
Erik
In game one vs Varsity Red on Saturday evening we played a very good game but fell a little short losing 5 to 2 with one of the goals being an empty netter. Josh Round faced 56 shots and played very well giving us a chance to win the game. We found success in being aggressive and showing the desire to win the battles and compete. Very proud of the boys
Game 2 wasn't as filled with desire and engage, but the boys started where they left off the previous day. In the first period we found much of the same success by being aggressive and maintaining our game plan. Unfortunately the wheels fell off and we got down a couple goals , which turned into a couple more quick ones.
Rough ending for the boys but look forward to one more with Red next weekend.
Congratulations to Tim and Varsity Red, who earned and deserved to big wins.
The boys all made it home in one piece after a great week in Phoenix We played some good competition and found some great success and relaxation and fun down in the sunshine. Great experience for us as a team to be able to spend the week competing as well as enjoying time away from the rink.
The boys played the home team Arizona Hockey Union today in their first game of the Presidents day tournament with a 2 to 2 tie. The excitement of being here took over and by the second period we were down 2 to 0. We settled down and dominated the second and third periods out shooting out hitting and out working them. We only allowed 5 shots on goal in the last to periods of the game. There goalie played extremely well but we found a way to finish and earn a tie.
We followed the game up by going to see an Arizona State baseball game, where the boys were able to relax and enjoy a night out together.
Game 2 against Rocky Mountain Rough Riders out of Colorado
After a discouraging performance last night against Kelowna the boys had an early game against POE this morning. The boys played a much better all round game and it showed with a final score of 7 to 2. Josh Round played a strong game in net and Erik Hamelin scored 4 goals. Much better performance today
