With a hard-fought 9-6 victory over the Beaversharks, Team Cobra has a shot at the playoffs. Cobra would have to defeat the Thunderchickens in their final game of the session to make the post season.

"For logging Chris Pronger-esq ice time, Scott-O is the cobra award winner this week," said Jacob Massa.

Cobra, 4-5, would have to defeat the Thunderchickens, 5-4, to tie them in points (10). By defeating them head-to-head Cobra would advance to the post season.

Team Cobra gets Curb Stomped by the Guidos in Playoff Debut

Posted by: Brian S on Thu Mar 11th 2010 3:47pm

Team Cobra finished their inaugural session in the Advanced Steel League in disappointing fashion by losing to the Guidos 10-5 in the first round of the playoffs.

Cobra entered the matchup as the fourth seed set to battle the fifth seeded Guidos for the chance to play Maryville in the semifinals. Cobra limped into the playoffs, however, having lost 3 of its last 4 games and the only win came in an overtime thriller against arch rivals the Fudgebars.

Team Cobra looked as though it had righted the ship as it took a two goal lead into halftime. Unfortunately, the Guidos exploded for 8 goals in the second half and left Cobra wondering what happened to a promising season that saw the Steel League Champions win five of their first six games in the new league.

Cobra gets right back into action this Sunday, March 14th, against DisFun. No information is available on DisFun, so it remains to be seen if this team is new to the league or an old foe who has restructured their roster.

Midwest Sport Hockey has also renamed the leagues, with the Advanced Steel League becoming the Steel League while the old Steel League is now classified as the Rusty Tin League.

Best of luck to Team Cobra in the new session!

With the undefeated run, Team Cobra graduated to the Advanced Steel League and expects to face more skilled competition in the 09/10 Winter League.

Cobra Ends Two Game Skid Against Rivals

Team Cobra ended a two game losing streak with a 5-4 overtime win against arch rival The Fudgebars. Mike Haldaman lead the way with 4 points, included the game winner in OT. Goalie Neal Cerrato earned the Cobra award with his fantastic performance between the pipes.
"He kept us in the game," said forward Jacob Massa as he handed over the award.
Defenseman Dustin Gallaher tied the game 4-4 late in the third, and Haldaman ended it just 10 seconds into overtime.
Prior to the win, Team Cobra had lost two in a row and 3 of the last 4. There is just one game remaining on the schedule against the Blue Devils 4:45 on Sunday.

Offensive Explosion Lifts Team Cobra Over The Guidos

Posted by: Brian S on Sun Jan 17th 2010 1:33pm

Team Cobra exploded for 11 goals on Sunday against the Guidos to improve to 5-1. Jacob Massa lead the charge with 5 goals and 1 assist and took home the Cobra Commander Award as the game's best player. Mike Haldaman chipped in 3 goals and 8 of 9 skaters contributed with at least one point to cap Cobra's biggest offensive output of the session, including goaltender Neil Cerrato.

The final score was 11-5 with Cerrato making several key, highlight reel saves to seal the win. Team Cobra took several penalties, but was able to score 3 shorthanded goals - a single game team record.

Team Cobra looks to add to its league leading point total next week against Maryville, who Cobra already defeated this session 6-4 on December 27, 2009.
