Blazers win Bronze @ Richmond International Tournament

Posted by: Thompson Blazer on Tue Jan 01st 2013 11:45am

After a slow start, losing to the Arizona Bobcats and tying the Edmonton Maple Leafs, the Blazers went on to finish first in their round-robin pool with wins over the North Island Silvertips and Mission Arizona U18. A 2-0 win over Compete Hockey Academy in the Quarter-Finals set up a rematch with the Arizona Bobcats in the Semi-Finals. Unfortunately the Bobcats took a 4-3 victory in a very good competitive battle. The Blazers played the North Island Silvertips for the Bronze Medal. Tied at 3 late in the third, the Blazers took the lead for good to win the Bronze Medal.

In their last 11 games the Blazers own a record of 6-2-3 only losing to the Arizona Bobcats.

Up next, a set of home games vs the Vancouver NE Chiefs;

Blazers Win Weekend set @ ISC

Posted by: Thompson Blazer on Sun Dec 16th 2012 8:57pm

Thompson Blazers [BC Hockey Major Midget] went 2 for 2 this past weekend at Interior Savings Centre taking 4 points from the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds. The Blazers go into the Christmas break on a 4 game undefeated streak [2-0-2].

On Saturday, the Blazers scored three goals in the in the first period by Cole McCaskill (2) and Nick Chyzowski for a 3-0 lead after the first 20 min. The second period was a tight defensive battle with not many chances and no scoring by either team. In the third, the Thunderbirds came out hard but the Blazers played well defensively and were able to limit them to just one goal. Along with solid goaltending by Griffin Baillie (32 saves), it was a complete and solid effort put forward by the Blazers for the 3-1 victory.

Sunday’s game started with the Blazers taking an early lead on a goal by Dante Caillier. The lead was short lived as the Thunderbirds replied just 16 seconds later. With a late goal in the first and another to start the second, the Thunderbirds had a 3-1 lead just 21 minutes into the game. It was then that the Blazers decided to pick up their game, outshooting the Thunderbirds 21-10 in the second period. Unfortunately, all the hard work only managed to produce one goal by Nick Chyzowski in the frame. With the Blazers trailing 3-2 to start the third period, the Thunderbirds again scored a early period goal, taking a 2-goal lead with 19 minutes remaining. Then the Blazers exploded for 6 third period goals by Riley Harder (2), David Larouche, Dexter Robinson, Riley Jepson and Carson Richards. The Blazers finished the game with 52 shots and 32 saves by Kyle Michalovsky in the 8-5 victory.

While several players enjoyed multiple points this weekend (Cole McCaskill 2G-A, Dustin Watt 3A, Carson Richards G-3A, Dante Caillier G-A, Riley Jepson G-2A, Nick Chyzowski 2G-2A, Dustin Vasil 3A, Riley Harder 2G, Dexter Robinson G-A) it was a complete team effort that enabled the Blazers to win their weekend set and increase their undefeated streak to 4 games.

Next up for the Thompson Blazers is the Richmond International Midget Tournament Dec 27-31. Next Blazers League games are Jan 5/6 vs Vancouver NE Chiefs @ Chase Arena.
