Gents,
Just a heads up there is no ice on Thursday, February 23rd since it was cancelled.
The next game will be February 28th, 10:00pm at Naden.
Following a 5-3 win on Sunday over the Victoria Capitals, the Titans lost a spirited game against the Victoria Jetts 5-3 Thursday night. The Capitals game was a tight one after two periods tied 2-2. The Titans then took the lead and never looked back, playing solid defense for the last 5 minutes of the game. Micheal Taylor was a disappointing -3 and was not much of a presence. The Jetts game was intense from the get-go with a lot of pressure coming from the Jetts. Highlight of the night went to Lauren Mitchell with a magnificent glove save in the second period. The Titans made it close in the 3rd with a powerplay goal to bring the score to 4-3. But, Lauren Mitchell was no where to be found in goal as the Jetts scored their 5th goal to seal the game. It was later discovered that coach Donnelly had pulled him for the extra attacker, a gamble which proved to be costly. Micheal Taylor again may have cost the Titans the game, going -5, bringing his plus/minus to a dismal -8 through the week. Coach Donnelly made this comment on Taylor's play following Thursday's game, "mmm..smokies!". Attendance continued to reach season highs for both games, as some girl was watching both games, although it appears her cell phone was more entertaining. The Titans take to the ice Monday night vs. the Knuckleheads.
Ok boys, we lost and didn't even score. Not much else to say.
Josh couldn't score, Brando couldn't score, Jimmy couldn't, the list goes on. On a bright note, Kendrew got a bodychecking penatly showing his isn't made of glass.
The Titans play the Blueliners on Sunday at Naden (Wurtele Arena) in Esquimalt. Bring chains boys! The snow is on its way.
Notes: Pat A. out with a shoulder injury after delivering a lethal blow during the Jets game. MT is out indefinately since he is in Galveston, TX (called up to the AHL). It's Sunday which means its Rhino's day of rest so he's a maybe.
It was a barn burner in Esquimalt on Tuesday night as the Titans defeated the Gray Leafs 9-3. Despite a slower pace, the Titans were able to play a solid passing game, resulting in a convincing win.
After the first period, the score was 5-0 in favour of the visitors. The Gray Leafs did not seem impressed with the titans speed and asked to have a minimum of two 45-year-old players on the ice at all times. S. Richardson laid a massive hit on a man who could've easily been his Grandfather. SR noted, "He was in the way, so I simply moved him". When asked about the potential for injuring someone, SR noted "It's hockey. I play the way I play so f*!k off".
The Gray Leafs responded late in the second with a rocket through Jay's five-hole. After two periods, the score was 7-2, breathing life into the home team. Bad Marty had a deflection on a point shot from Josh which only missed by 2mm. Jeff "Da Man" had eight missed attempts, resulting in him loosening his grip on the stick a little. When asked about his chances, Jeff had this to say: "I play hard and drive the net, but I just couldn't connect. The passes were coming so fast I couldn't keep my eye on them, plus I shoot left and had to use a right-handed stick tonight. Buy Vancouver Island Brewery beer please".
The pace picked up in the third, but the Titans were able to hold them to a goal for a final score of 9-3. The Titans prepare for another old-timers classic, facing off against the Victoria Marmets at Pearkes tonight. Game time at 10:30pm, doors open, well, never.
Notes: Jim Z suffered a memory loss and didn't make the Tuesday game. Pat A was watching "The Notebook" and couldn't pull himself away either.
Titans:
Are we interested in joining the Pacific Cup this year? I am waiting for feedback about this and if it's open still to play.
It takes place on Jan 20-22nd and we have games on the 19th (Jets) and 23rd (Knuckleheads) so it would not interfere with our regular games - but it means a lot of hockey in a few short days.
I don't know if it's even possible yet, but if it is the cost is about $70 a person based on 13 skaters.
Thanks for any feedback.
