The Young Gunz ended 2012 with a disappointing 2-0 loss to the Toronto Reign. With the loss, the Gunz are now 0-8-1 in the winter season and in last place. The loss of Daniel "The Jet" Ascenzi & Stefano "Green Socks" Giacomel to suspension has affected the team's offensive production. Early on, the team could score but couldn't defend. Now, the team is defending better, but is struggling to score.
This is not what Coaches Daniel Ciampa & Graciano Da Ponte had in mind when putting the team together. "I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I didn't think we'd be this bad," said Ciampa. Da Ponte was also high on the team's chances, "I honestly thought we would compete for 1st place. I will admit that, early on, the goaltending tandem (Chris & I) wasn't good enough. But I feel that I've come out of my funk and I expect Chris to do the same. We just need to get some scoring."
As bad as this season has gone, with only 5 games remaining, unbelievably the Gunz can still qualify for the playoffs! To quote veteran Joe Cuccione, "Everyone will have to look themselves in the mirror & take a reality check." The Gunz will have to turn things around quickly in the new year. 3 wins out of 5 games, will go a long way in ensuring they qualify for the playoffs. But it will take a commitment from everyone to a team game to do it!
The Young Gunz ended a disappointing fall season with a 1-0 loss to the Scarbro Jets. That result put the Gunz into a 4 way tie for 3rd, with all teams tied with 9 points. But with only 2 spots available, the Toronto Canucks & Scarbro Jets qualified based on a better goal difference percentage.
The team will now look ahead to the winter season that starts in a few weeks. With a few players taking a break, the Gunz will be joined by several Young Canadians, who are facing a similar situation this winter.
